Daily Bread

I wasn’t going to write a blog tonight because I have work tomorrow, and as many of you know, I NEED my sleep. However, there is just a message I have heard over and over and over tonight that I just can’t ignore and that I need to share.

Have you heard that song by Danny Gokey called “More Than You Think I Am”? I love it and I’ve heard it on the radio so many times, but I don’t grow tired of it. The beginning lyrics go like this:

“You always think I’m somewhere on a mountaintop,

But never think, behind bars;

You’d be amazed the places that I go,

To be with you, where you are…”

I found myself thinking tonight, how many times have I hiked through nature, looked at a sunset, or stared at the mountains and felt God’s presence? When I am at work, cleaning a patient up, or distributing medications to my patients, do I think about God being there with me? Not usually. It’s just work. Do I need Him for that task? I’d like to say yes, but I often don’t inherently feel that way.

Lately, with all my health struggles and new adjustments, I’ve felt God around me and with me. I went to church tonight and the message was from Hebrews 3, starting in verse 7. The pastor talked about our responsibility, as people, as believers, to build each other up every day. We do that in order to keep from straying from God’s presence and teachings. He emphasized that we need it more than we think we do.

What has been laid on my heart tonight, though, is the fact that God goes with us EVERYWHERE. God places people in our lives to accomplish His purposes. God places people in our lives for a reason – to help build us up in His truth. It might be a person who is helping you through something, but, guess what, that’s actually God doing that. God is actually putting that person in your path. When I’m giving out those medications, God is with me. When I’m cleaning somebody up, God is with me.

God is with you. Always.

There are so many little “coincidences” in life that we experience. Do you ever stop and think that it is actually God giving you what you need? Maybe you don’t even know you need it. Because, we think we have everything covered, right? I’m good; I don’t need that constant reminder to stay on the narrow path. I got this. I wouldn’t stray from God and His teachings in the Bible. Guess what? We all do at some point. Be conscious of that. Who was the last person who gave encouragement to you? When was the last time you gave that encouragement? We are called to be there for each other. God is always working, always intervening at just the right moment, and always accomplishing His purposes through His people. I’ll give you a hint…those people I’m talking about? They’re us. If you’re going through something hard right now, don’t turn people away. And be comforted. God is with you. He is taking care of you. He knows what you need better than you do. And He uses a myriad of ways to accomplish that. Hang in there, God’s got you.

“See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.” Hebrews 3:12-14

“…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20
